National Railway Museum

Permanent displays include the jewel in our crown - "Palaces on Wheels". With Royal saloons dating back to the pre-Victorian era, visitors have the rare chance to glimpse inside the sumptuous bedrooms, dining rooms and day saloons which really are palaces on wheels.

The National Collection also includes a host of other artifacts associated with our railways, such as 3,300 models, 6,500 items of silver and crockery, over 300 nameplates, 350,000 tickets, 1,800 buttons and 1.4 million negatives, 350,000 engineering drawings, 7,500 posters, 200 original works of art. It also hosts a vast archive of documents
